Crayon Cupcakes by arteesvida

I originally saw the idea in family fun but couldn’t find the heart shaped mini pans, so we decided to make crayon cupcakes!

Peel the paper off of old crayons break them in pieces and layer them in a cupcake tin.  Put them in a 250 degree oven for about 30 minutes.  (Family Fun said 15 minutes but that wasn’t nearly enough time when I did the project).  They come out easiest by turning the pan upside down and shaking them out rather than trying to pry them out individually!

These are going to my 6 year olds class at school!

I keep looking at these and thinking… ‘cupcakes’ – aren’t they for eating? I donøt suppose these are, but what is the intention with them then? Mere decoration, or to be used as big multicolored crayons clumps?

Yes, they can be used like a rainbow color crayon. They are also fun to make, try putting warm colors (red, yellow, orange) to gether and cool colors (green, blue, purple) You can also try analogous colors, a good way to learn the color wheel. split colors into the primaries and secondaries, then choose three that are side by side (analogous) like Red, purple, blue.

The colorcakes will release easier if they are placed in the freezer for 20 minutes after they have cooled. That’s how we remove wax from candle sticks.
